HOLTAM'S

Generation 1

(1) SPENCER HOLTAM was born in Anson County, North Carolina about 1740.  He
    married NANCY (believed to be WEST) in Montgomery County, North Carolina.
    Researching records for SPENCER have been difficult due to the various spelling of the
    last name in many county records.  For instance: HALTOM, HALTON, HOLTON,
    HOTTOM, AULTUM
 and ALTOM.

Generation 2

    (2) ELIJAH SPENCER HOLTAM (Spencer 1) married in Alabama, a supposed
        widow SARAH ANN JAMES MERRILL who was born July 13, 1790 in
        Georgia. She died September 27, 1867.  Sarah was the daughter of ABNER
        JAMES
.  Before the Civil War there was a town in Clarke County called Holtamville,
        near Bashi and Choctaw Corner, this is where  the HOLTAMS and related families
        lived.  The family ran a mill and farmed the land.

The children of ELIJAH SPENCER HOLTAM and SARAH JAMES

        (3) SPENCER JACKSON HOLTAM was born January 7, 1818 in Alabama.  He
            died June 20, 1841 in Alabama.
        (3) ABNER STOUT HOLTAM was born January 27, 1820 in Alabama.  He died
            October 15, 1899 in Alabama.  ABNER married MARTHA CRENSHAW on
            March 2, 1843 in Alabama.  MARTHA was born June 28, 1826 in Alabama.  She
            died June 3, 1909 in Alabama.  MARTHA was the daughter of HEZEKIAH
            CRENSHAW
and  ANNIE MILLER.  ABNER joined the Clarke County
            Reserves State Militia on November 19, 1864.  His occupation is stated as being a
            shoemaker.
        (3) THOMAS JEFFERSON HOLTAM was born January 21, 1823 in Alabama.  He
            died October 8, 1884 in Alabama.  THOMAS married SARAH LOFTIN. She was
            born  about 1826 in Alabama.  THOMAS joined the Clarke County Reserves State
            Militia on  November 19, 1964.  His occupation is listed as a miller.  After his father's
            death he moved his family to Birmingham, Alabama.
        (3) MALINDA C HOLTAM was born February 3, 1826 in Alabama.  She died March
             29, 1850 in Alabama. MALINDA married ELIJAH MONCRIEF February 15,
            1842  in Alabama. After her death MALINDA'S parents raised her children.
        (3) SARAH ANN HOLTAM  was born December 4, 1827.  SARAH married
            SHADRACK A INGRAM  March 20, 1845 in Alabama.  SHADRACK was born
            in 1820 in Tennessee and was killed while serving in the Civil War.  After
            SHADRACK'S death, SARAH  continued to live next door to her father, ELIJAH
           
and her brother ABNER.
        (3) EMILINE JANE HOLTAM was born January 18, 1830 in Alabama.  She died
            December 16, 1907 in Alabama.  EMILINE married JOHN H HEADRICKS
           
December, 19, 1849 in Alabama.
        (3) MARY CAROLINE HOLTAM was born February 27, 1833 in Alabama.  She
           died February 9, 1851 in Alabama.  MARY married ANTHONY A FLINN April
            17,1879 in Alabama.  ANTHONY was born in 1823 in Alabama.

Generation 4

The children of ABNER STOUT HOLTAM and MARTHA CRENSHAW

            (4) ROBERT HOLTAM was born in 1846 in Alabama.
            (4) JAMES HOLTAM was born in 1847 in Alabama.
            (4) CAROLINE HOLTAM was born December 5, 1850 in Alabama.  She died
                September 20, 1924 in Alabama. CAROLINE married ISAAC WILLIAMS
               
 about 1867 in Alabama.  ISAAC was born about 1837 and died in 1879 in
                Alabama. (This is my mystery man any leads or possibilities would be very
                welcome)
 Little is known of ISAAC'S early life.In the 1870 census he is listed as J
                WILLIAMS
, what is the J for??  Family members say is first name was
                WALTER.   They also say CAROLINE'S father objected to the marriage.
                Why?? Could it have been the age difference, or perhaps ISAAC had abandoned a
                 family elsewhere?  All I know for sure on ISAAC is that he died 3 days after being
                 stabbed in a drunken frolic.
            (4) JOSEPH POGUE HOLTAM was born September 6, 1857 in Alabama.  He died
                March 2, 1908 in Alabama.  JOSEPH married JUDY A WALKER December
                26, 1880 in Alabama.  JUDY was born February 16, 1858 in Alabama. She died
                January 19, 1935 in Alabama.
            (4) MARYLINE LUCINDA HOLTAM was born  October 10, 1859 in Alabama.
                She died  August 8, 1944.  MARALINE married her cousin, ABNER S
                INGRAM
,( son of SARAH ANN HOLTAM  and SHADRACK A INGRAM)
                on December 20, 1883.
            (4) IRA BAKER HOLTAM was born September 6, 1865 in Alabama.  He died July
                20, 1928 in Alabama.  IRA married ANNIE E CRENSHAW on January 11,
                1885 in Alabama.  ANNIE was born October 22, 1867 in Alabama and died July
                14, 1947.  She was the daughter of PLEASANT C CRENSHAW and SUSAN
                MCCLINTON
.  PLEASANT was also the brother of IRA'S mother,
                MARTHA CRENSHAW HOLTAM.

The children of THOMAS JEFFERSON HOLTAM and SARAH LOFTIN

             (4) ELIJAH P HOLTAM was born in 1846 in Alabama and died before 1860 in
                 Alabama.
             (4) WILLIAM A HOLTAM was born in 1847 in Alabama.
             (4) SARAH HOLTAM was born in 1850 in Alabama.  She died before 1860 in
                 Alabama.
             (4) MARTHA J HOLTAM was born in 1852 in Alabama.
             (4) ASA HOLTAM was born in 1854 in Alabama.
             (4) LEWIS LEE HOLTAM was born in 1856 in Alabama.
             (4) FRANCES C HOLTAM was born in 1859 in Alabama.
             (4) ROBERT HOLTAM was born in 1860 in Alabama.
             (4) MARINDA HOLTAM was born in 1863 in Alabama.
             (4) CATHERINE HOLTAM was born in 1869 in Alabama. 

The children of MALINDA C HOLTAM and ELIJAH MONCRIEF

             (4) MARY MONCRIEF was born February 24, 1844 in Alabama.
             (4) CALEB W MONCRIEF was born August 21, 1846 in Alabama.
             (4) JAMES MONCRIEF was born November 28, 1848 in Alabama.

             (4) LUCINDA INGRAM was born in 1849 in Alabama.
             (4) REBECCA INGRAM was born in 1851 in Alabama.
             (4) LODIE E INGRAM  was born in 1852 in Alabama.
             (4) GEORGIA A INGRAM was born in 1854 in Alabama.
             (4) ABNER S INGRAM was born in 1856 in Alabama.
             (4) THOMAS INGRAM was born in 1858 in Alabama.

Generation 5

The Children of CAROLINE N HOLTAM and ISAAC WILLIAMS

                  (5) WALTER IRA WILLIAMS was born April 25, 1868 in Alabama.  He died
                       August 22, 1945 in Alabama.
                  (5) GEORGE WASHINGTON WILLIAMS was born July 4, 1871.  He died
                      March 16, 1931 in Alabama.
                  (5) URIAH S WILLIAMS was born in 1872 in Alabama.  He died in 1943 in
                      Alabama.
                  (5) MATTIE WILLIAM was born in 1875 in Alabama.
                  (5) ISOPHINE WILLIAMS was born in 1879 in Alabama.

The children of IRA BAKER HOLTAM and ANNIE E CRENSHAW

                  (5) NORA B HOLTAM ws born December 7, 1885 in Alabama.
                  (5) NECE HOLTAM was born December 24, 1887 in Alabama and died
                      October22, 1978.
                  (5) MINNIE E HOLTAM was born October 22, 1889 in Alabama and died
                       February 1988.
                  (5) PLEAS HOLTAM was born September 14, 1891 in Alabama.
                  (5) UNA ERCELLA HOLTAM was born August 23, 1894 in Alabama.
                  (5) IRA CLINTON HOLTAM was born June 18, 1896 in Alabama and died
                      December 13, 1896.
                  (5) INFANT was born and died February 3, 1900 in Alabama.
                  (5) LEON B HOLTAM was born September 26, 1902 in Alabama and died
                      November 24, 1918.
                  (5) NORMAN SHELTON HOLTAM was born December 8, 1904.
                  (5) WILLIE MARY HOLTAM was born October 22, 1906 and died August
                      1981.
